Mixed Media with Mixed Outcomes

Creating arT HAs Been a journey

After getting my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at SIUE, I went to work as a graphic designer and eventually moved into digital management in the agency world after finding a knack for tech and process. When I first started making art 20 years ago, I focused on interior relief artwork with hand-carving of high density urethane foam and hand-dyed fabrics mixed with other hardware materials.

Eventually I moved into the garden and started making free-standing sculptures, a convenient decision since I like to work big and am a plant freak. I experimented with productizing my sculptures — even taking a leave-of-absence from agency life to explore the possibilities — but in the end decided against the business model. As they say, sometimes the best decisions are what we decide not to do.

The journey has brought me to another place, garden art & design. I continue using my yard as a canvas and let nature do it’s thing to change my artwork with the seasons and decompose with time. Just like we all do.

Samples of my interior wall scupltures are below, or learn more about my garden art.
